Pitfield Farm Cattle is owned by Peter Lane, who runs a herd of traditional British beef animals, graze the lush clover, buttercup and cornflower rich green pastures of Devon. All animals are naturally reared in a stress free environment, spending the spring, summer and autumn months enjoying the sun and rain with the shelter of hedges and trees in long established small fields. During the Winter months the herd is housed in up to date barns on barley straw bedding and fed on their own summer grass, conserved as silage and hay.

 

 

Childhay Manor is owned by Will Frost. He owns a herd of traditionally farmed pigs situated near Seaton in East Devon on sandy soil, a fantastic site for the pigs to be born and reared. Free range pigs require good drained soil to enable them to be out all year round. The herd is made up of 400 sows which have been specially selected. They are a mix of traditional breeds which Will has been involved with from the start of his pig production 20 years ago. This ensures the consistently good quality that is delivered to Complete Meats.

 

Kenniford Farm is owned by Andrew Freemantle. Kenniford is a 70 acre farm situated in East Devon 5 miles from Exeter. The farm is a mixture of pasture, arable and livestock. The Freemantle family have been rearing livestock for the last four generations the natural way without additives growth promoters and routine antibiotics. The farm was set up as a high welfare pig breeding unit that has allowed the traditional methods to continue with no compromise on the final product. The farm is also on ELS which allows us to carry out environmental management, we have been able to create two copses and a fruit orchard to encourage and preserve the farm wildlife. Free Range Bronze Turkeys from Steven Slade in East Devon

For many years we have stocked fabulous bronze free range turkeys from Steven Slade in Alyesbeare (East Devon). Rosamondford Farm produces free-range eggs, Red Ruby Devon beef and Christmas turkeys. Steve has lived on the farm all his life and took over the running of the business when his parents retired.

Christmas is a very busy time for Steve as he sells around 4,500 turkeys every December. Steve said “We rear large bronze-breasted, free-range turkeys. The turkeys arrive on the farm as day-old chicks during the month of June. We allow them to grow slowly and naturally, feed on a diet of homegrown oats. They live free-range until they are around 26 weeks old. The turkeys are slaughtered on the farm, which means that they remain fresh for as long as possible and are not in any distress due to long periods of travelling. All the turkeys are hung for two weeks and dry-plucked. We use traditional processes as it improves the texture of the meat and enhances the flavour. Free-range turkeys are a lot gamier and generally tastier than standard turkey”.
